Regular GCMR meetings are held in January, March, May, June, August, and October at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church facility located at 12th Street and Glendale Avenue. Meetings begin at 9:00am where refreshments are available and fellowship abounds. One or more trains are usually running at these meetings.
The club has a multi gauge, mobile layout that is transported to various events around the state, an S-gauge modular layout system, an O-gauge modular layout system, a Kids-Club portable layout, and several smaller layouts. Many of the modular units are created and owned by members and are designed to fit together to form a variable dimensioned layout.
During the second weekend in October, the GCMR becomes a major presence at Scottsdale’s Rail Fair held at the McCormick Stillman Railroad Park. The modular layouts and the mobile layout supply outdoor enjoyment for everyone at the event.
In December, the mobile layout is part of a 3-weekend holiday light show held at the Adobe Dam Recreation Area in northwest Phoenix with the modules on display at other venues.
To help offset operating expenses for various layouts, in February and July, the club hosts a major swap meet held at the North Phoenix Baptist Church facility located at Central and Bethany Home Roads. It has grown over the years and now features running trains, demonstrations, and over 100 vendor tables. In April and September, a mini swap meet is held at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church facility. The admission there is free.
The Main Line is a monthly newsletter distributed both electronically and by regular mail to the membership and interested parties. This web site has a link to previous issues of the Main Line for everyone’s reading.
